(ECNS) -- The Chinese Navy hospital ship Ark Silk Road arrived in Jamaica last week and will dock at multiple ports to provide humanitarian medical service to the people hit by Hurricane Melissa, said Guo Jiakun, a spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, at a press conference on Monday.
Jamaica has suffered damage caused by Hurricane Melissa approximately equivalent to 30 percent of its gross domestic product (GDP), according to a previous media report.
China feels for Jamaica over the devastating hurricane and has provided emergency disaster relief assistance in light of Jamaica's need, Guo said.
The hospital ship Silk Road Ark, currently on Mission Harmony 2025, will provide medical services during its 12-day visit to Jamaica.
China believes the hospital ship will bring China's friendship to the affected communities and help the Jamaican people recover and rebuild from the disaster with greater confidence, Guo said.
