(ECNS) -- A food poisoning incident in Xishui County, southwest China's Guizhou Province, has sickened more than 100 people, including children, as of Sunday, according to local authorities.
The patients were hospitalized after experiencing symptoms such as abnormal liver and kidney function from consuming sandwiches produced by a local sandwich pastry factory, officials said.
The factory, which operates eight retail stores in the county, sold 208 sandwiches of the same kind, with 29 successfully recalled.
Currently, most patients are receiving treatment at a local hospital in Xishui, with some severe cases transferred to Zunyi City and Chongqing.
The involved stores have suspended operations. Patient treatment, epidemiological investigations, and sample testing are underway, local authorities said.
