(ECNS) — Three golden snub-nosed monkeys from the Qinling Giant Panda Research Center departed for Belgium on Wednesday to begin a 10-year international cooperation project on species conservation, according to the China Wildlife Conservation Association (CWCA).

The cooperation follows an agreement signed in December 2024 between the CWCA and Belgium's Pairi Daiza Zoo. The project aims to promote joint research on the protection and breeding of golden snub-nosed monkeys.

To ensure safe and smooth transportation, a veterinarian and a keeper accompanied the animals on the flight. Prior to departure, the monkeys underwent quarantine, health checks, and received tailored care. Sufficient food, water, and medicine were prepared for the journey.

Pairi Daiza has built a dedicated facility for the monkeys under the guidance of Chinese experts. The zoo has also formed an experienced husbandry team and established detailed management protocols.

The CWCA said the collaboration is expected to yield positive outcomes in breeding, disease prevention, scientific exchange, and public education, contributing to global biodiversity conservation.
