(ECNS) — Hong Kong International Airport was ranked the world's busiest cargo airport for 2024, according to data released by Airports Council International (ACI) on Monday. This marks the 14th time the airport has received the top ranking since 2010.
Citing earlier figures released by the Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK), the airport handled 4.9 million metric tons of cargo in 2024, representing a 14 percent year-on-year increase.
AAHK Chief Executive Officer Vivian Cheung Kar-fay said the repeated recognition reflects the authority's commitment to innovation, seizing opportunities, and enhancing cargo services.
With the full commissioning of the airport's Three-runway System and the progressive completion of new cargo handling facilities, the AAHK will continue to work closely with the air cargo industry to leverage the airport's unique strengths, Cheung said. She added that the goal is to reinforce Hong Kong's resilience amid global economic uncertainties and further solidify the airport's status as a leading international aviation hub.
