(ECNS) -- The U.S. side should completely cancel the harmful practice of their "reciprocal tariffs" and return to the right path of resolving differences through mutual respect and equal dialogue, China's Ministry of Commerce stated on Sunday.
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced in an updated guidance on late Friday that the U.S. government has now exempted smartphones, computers and other electronic products from its "reciprocal tariffs."
This marks an adjustment to the policy since April 10, when the U.S. suspended the imposition of high "reciprocal tariffs" on some trading partners. It is a small step by the U.S. side to correct their misguided unilateral approach of "reciprocal tariffs, China's Ministry of Commerce said.
These so-called "reciprocal tariffs," imposed through an administrative order, not only violate fundamental economic and market principles but also disregard the complementary cooperation and the dynamics of global supply and demand.
Such practices have severely disrupted the international economic and trade order, interfered with normal business operations and people's livelihoods, and inflicted damage on multiple parties without yielding benefits for the U.S. itself, the ministry concluded.
