(ECNS) -- East China's Jiangxi Province completed its first local collection of foreign, non-related hematopoietic stem cells on Tuesday. By donating blood, Mr. Peng, from Ganzhou City, selflessly gave a foreign stranger a special "gift of life".
Peng, a 90s workshop laborer, joined the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP) in 2022. Since 2013, he has been donating blood for free for 12 years.
He said this was his 33rd donation, hoping it could help the patient recover soon.
CMDP is the fourth largest marrow donor registry in the world and the largest for Chinese people globally. This collection marks its 400th international donation.
As of Wednesday, the CMDP has over 3.62 million registered volunteers with more than 19,000 donations in total, helping patients in more than 30 countries and regions, including the United States, Singapore, and Australia.
In Jiangxi Province, there are 84,602 registered volunteers with 390 donations in total, including nine donations to patients in countries such as Belgium, Canada, and France.
