Chinese Consulate refutes rumors: suspect in child abduction case in Laos' Bokeo Province not Chinese citizen

(ECNS)-- The Chinese Consulate General in Luang Prabang issued a statement Tuesday on its WeChat account regarding a false claim circulating on Facebook that a Chinese woman had been caught for abducting a child in Bokeo Province, Laos, and was subsequently apprehended by local villagers who reported the incident to local police.

Upon learning of that claim, the Chinese Consulate General in Luang Prabang promptly took action to verify the information. In response, the Bokeo Provincial Police confirmed that the suspect is a Laotian citizen with a history of drug use, and not a Chinese national as falsely claimed.

The consulate has urged the removal of the false post. (By Zhao Li)
