(ECNS) -- China has made a significant breakthrough in uranium exploration with the discovery of an ultra-large scale uranium deposit in the Jingchuan area of the Ordos Basin, northwest China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, according to The China Geological Survey under the Ministry of Natural Resources on Friday.

This is the world's first ultra-large uranium deposit identified within an aeolian sandstone distribution zone.

China boasts extensive areas of aeolian sandstone. In addition to the approximately 200,000 square kilometers in the Ordos Basin, such formations are also widely distributed in petroliferous basins like the Tarim Basin, Junggar Basin, and Songliao Basin.

Experts believe that the new discovery will provide a geological foundation for further uranium exploration. It is expected to significantly increase China’s uranium resources.
