(ECNS) -- The first 10 months of 2024 saw China’s steady progress in 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT) development, with a sustained expansion in user base.
According to the World Internet Development Report 2024, China is already home to over half of the world's 1.57 billion 5G users by the end of 2023.
By the end of October, China had 995 million 5G users and 4.141 million 5G base stations, accounting for 32.8 percent of the country's total mobile base stations, data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows.
An action plan on 5G outlined by several government departments was released last Friday, which sets China's goal to surpass an 85 percent 5G user penetration rate by the end of 2027.
The plan aims to boost the large-scale development of 5G applications and promote the integration and innovation of digital technologies.
By then, 5G will account for 75 percent of mobile internet traffic and the number of IoT terminals connected to 5G in the country will exceed 100 million.
