(ECNS) – China’s first offshore pilot site using thermal recovery technology, Nanbao 35-2 south oil field, has exceeded 1.2 million metric tons, according to China National Offshore Oil Corporation's (CNOOC)Tianjin branch on Thursday.

The Nanbao 35-2 oil field is one of the earliest heavy oil fields in the Bohai Sea. To enhance heavy oil production in the field’s southern region, research and development teams have implemented multi-component thermal fluid huff-and-puff technology.

Heavy oil, characterized by high density, high viscosity, poor fluidity, and a tendency to solidify requires specialized recovery methods. This thermal recovery technology is an innovative heavy oil thermal recovery method that is now widely used in China’s offshore oil fields.

So far, it has contributed to the production of more than 800,000 metric tons crude oil in the Nanbao 35-2 oil field.

Nanbao 35-2 is an independent oil field located in the middle part of the Bohai Sea, with its production beginning in September 2005. The field can produce approximately 220 metric tons of oil per day.
