(ECNS) -- China has started using solid hydrogen for electricity generation in two power stations in south Kunming and Guangzhou in south China.

This is the first time it has used photovoltaic power generation to produce solid-state hydrogen energy and successfully applied it to the power system, which is of great significance for promoting large-scale hydrogen production from renewable energy sources and accelerating the development of a new type of power system.

The smart hydrogen station located on Xiaohu Island in Guangzhou’s Nansha district contains seven advanced solid hydrogen storage facilities, capable of storing 90 kilograms of hydrogen.

The other hydrogen power station, located in Kunming City, southwest China's Yunnan Province, has already stored 165 kilograms of hydrogen power. The Yunnan branch of Southern Power Grid has built a comprehensive demonstration base for hydrogen production, storage, and utilization, which stores both liquid and solid-state hydrogen.
