China wins back-to-back Asian Games gold in Honor of Kings

(ECNS) -- China won the gold medal in the Honor of Kings esports event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Monday, sweeping Malaysia 4-0 in the final to successfully defend its title from the Hangzhou Games.

China had dominated the tournament from the start, winning every group-stage and knockout match 2-0 before advancing to the final. The Honor of Kings final was played in a best-of-seven format.

China's gold-medal lineup featured Zhao Haoyu, He Weijia, Huang Yaoqin, Xu Bizhen and Meng Jiajun, with Wang Ke as a substitute. Li Tuo served as head coach.

Xu Bizhen made history with the victory, becoming the first player to win two Asian Games gold medals in Honor of Kings. He is also the only player to have been selected for China's national team for the event at two consecutive Asian Games.

Malaysia took silver, while the Philippines and China's Hong Kong SAR shared the bronze medal.
