Beijing teen accused of killing senior couple, beating mom, female classmate

A teenage student suspected of killing two people and injuring four others -- including his mother, who he beat into a coma -- has been detained by Beijing police, the public security department of the capital's Tongzhou district said on Wednesday.

The department issued a statement via its official microblogging account, noting that it received a call about an assault on the school campus at around 8 am on Monday.

After an investigation, police detained the suspect, surnamed Zhang, 16. He is accused of beating a 17-year-old female classmate during a class, and then injuring two teachers who tried to dissuade him, the statement said.

The three were quickly sent to a hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries, it said.

Police also discovered that on Sunday night, Zhang allegedly killed a senior couple, who were his neighbors. They also found that some time before he went to school on Monday, he also allegedly beat his 51-year-old mother into a coma.

The statement identified the seniors as a man surnamed Jiao, 60, and his wife surnamed Wang, 55.

Further investigation is still underway.
