Guangzhou has the ability to meet the mass vaccination need as far as inhaled COVID-19 vaccine is concerned, said an official with the Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Sunday.

"The production capacity of inhaled COVID-19 vaccine is adequate, and as long as residents have the vaccination needs, Guangzhou will have enough inhaled COVID-19 vaccines," Zhang Chunhuan, deputy director of Immunization Planning Department with Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said at an online media briefing.

"The first batch of inhaled vaccines arrived in Guangzhou a few days ago and they will be open to residents in all districts in the coming weeks," said the immunization expert.

"Inhaled vaccine is characterized by that it is inoculated through inhalation of respiratory tract, and it can produce mucosal immunity and inhibit virus colonization and propagation in respiratory tract," he said.

According to the city's health commission, Guangzhou reported a total of 753 local transmitted COVID-19 patients and 3,663 asymptomatic carriers on Sunday.

To block the spread of the COVID-19, Guangzhou's Conghua district decided to continue to suspend all the closed and semi-closed public venues, including KTV, karaoke, dancing hall, internet cafes, bars, chess and card rooms, mahjong parlors, cinemas, foot massage centers and sauna houses, starting Monday, according to a notice issued by the district's COVID-19 control and prevention headquarters on Monday.

Meanwhile, all districts in the southern metropolis have clearly listed high-risk areas where residents are required to stay at homes unless absolutely necessary to help prevent and control the spread of the virus in the city's community level.
