Self-service juice machine complaint
Shanghai Municipal Food and Drug Administration met with the owner of a self-service orange juice machine about an alleged food safety complaint Wednesday, thepaper.cn reported Thursday.
A we-media claimed that oranges being used in some of the machines installed in shopping malls and metro stations are moldy and rotten, and that some juice contained hair or black dregs. Photos failed to show a specific date or location.
Vingoo, the self-service orange juice machine operator, published an announcement Tuesday that the machines mentioned in the we-media article referred to its first-generation and third-generation.
The operator claimed that the first generation machines have been phased out of the market since 2015 and replaced by third-generation machines in 2016. The company agreed to a self-inspection.
According to the administration, national food safety standards for fresh squeezed natural juice, which has become very popular in Shanghai in recent years, have yet to be determined.
