Webb telescope captures Wolf-Rayet Star 124(1/1)

2023-03-15 11:45:11 Ecns.cn Editor :Li Yan

The luminous, hot star Wolf-Rayet 124 (WR 124) is prominent at the center of the James Webb Space Telescope’s composite image combining near-infrared and mid-infrared wavelengths of light from Webb’s Near-Infrared Camera and Mid-Infrared Instrument. (Photo/Agencies)

The star WR 124 is 30 times the mass of the Sun and has shed 10 Suns’ worth of material - so far. As the ejected gas moves away from the star and cools, cosmic dust forms and glows in the infrared light detectable by Webb.
