(ECNS) -- The Guangdong Advanced Manufacturing Conference was held in Guangzhou on Friday, as the province aims to raise AI adoption among its large-scale manufacturers to more than 50% and achieve an annual output of more than 80,000 humanoid robots by 2028.
Guangdong plans to build more than 1,000 smart factories in the advanced, excellent and leading categories, along with 1,000 green factories, by 2028.
Guangdong produces more than 40% of China’s industrial robots and over 80% of the country’s service robots. Its humanoid robot output is expected to account for one-third of China’s total in 2026. More than 3,000 humanoid robots are projected to be deployed at factories across Guangdong this year.
With a comprehensive manufacturing base and abundant opportunities for deployment, Guangdong is developing humanoid robots not to chase trends but to strengthen independent control over its industrial supply chains and build new advantages in high-end manufacturing, said Zhou Jian, founder and chairman of UBTECH Robotics.
He suggested that humanoid robots should create value on real production lines, starting with repetitive, high-intensity jobs to address key challenges and move beyond isolated pilot projects to wider deployment.
New models of service-oriented manufacturing can be developed through “robots + industry”, “robots + elderly care and health services” and “robots + special operations”.
