(ECNS) -- A high-altitude wind farm in Qonggyai County, Xizang Autonomous Region, completed the installation of all its wind turbines on Thursday, marking a key step toward connection to the power grid.

The wind power project has a total installed capacity of 150 megawatts, with 24 turbines rated at 6.25 MW each situated at elevations of 4,800 to 5,350 meters.

Construction teams overcame the challenges posed by thin air, sharp fluctuations in temperature and strong winds by upgrading equipment, using smart weather monitoring and adopting modular installation methods.

They also reinforced mountain roads and coordinated transport to move oversized components safely to the turbine sites.

To protect the fragile plateau environment, the project avoided ecologically sensitive areas, reused existing roads, restored vegetation on land temporarily used for construction and conducted regular wildlife inspections.

Once operational, the wind farm is expected to generate 394 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, enough to power about 175,000 households, while reducing carbon dioxide emissions by around 330,000 metric tons a year.
