(ECNS) -- Huanggang Port in Shenzhen City, Guangdong Province, opened at 6:30 a.m. on Monday after redevelopment, making cross-border passenger travel between the city and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region easier.
The port operates under a co-location arrangement with a new "collaborative inspection and joint clearance" system, allowing travelers to complete immigration procedures for both Hong Kong and Shenzhen by queuing just once.
The revamped Huanggang Port is designed to handle 200,000 passengers a day, up from 50,000 previously. All 202 passenger clearance channels are now in operation. Travelers can complete clearance procedures in as little as 20 seconds, marking a substantial improvement in clearance efficiency.
As a key project in the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the port will support the 33rd APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, scheduled to be held in Shenzhen on Nov. 18 and 19.
The original Huanggang Port, which opened in 1989, was China's first large-scale land port to offer 24-hour clearance. The redeveloped port has a total floor area of 689,700 square meters, with four floors below ground and five above ground.
