(ECNS) -- Authorities in Suichuan County, Jiangxi Province, have safely evacuated 169 residents from a village amid the threat of landslides triggered by sustained heavy rainfall.
Days of relentless downpours have caused cracks to appear on mountain slopes in Heping Village of Dafen Town, creating a serious geological hazard. Local authorities initiated an overnight emergency evacuation, moving residents from 87 households across three village groups in the hazard zone to safety to prevent casualties.
The evacuation was completed by 8 p.m. All relocated villagers have been placed in temporary accommodation at a local senior care facility in the town.
The temporary shelter is well-stocked with daily necessities such as bedding, drinking water and instant meals, ensuring basic living conditions for the displaced residents.
Four people were confirmed dead on Sunday after a series of mudslides and landslides struck Suichuan on Saturday.
