(ECNS) -- Firefighters in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, rescued a man Sunday after he became trapped in fast-rising river currents while trying to save his pet dog during heavy rainfall.
At 4:08 p.m., the city's fire rescue bureau received a report that the man had entered the Aojiang River in Lianjiang County to retrieve his dog, swept in by sudden downpours. The current quickly pinned him in kneedeep water.
Rescue crews arrived with water rescue gear, throwing a lifeline and guiding him to secure the rope and hold position. After 20 minutes, he was safely pulled ashore. A preliminary check found him in good condition.
Authorities said the incident highlighted the dangers of sudden flash floods and urged residents to avoid entering rivers during heavy rain.
