(ECNS) -- One person has been killed, and two others remain missing after a mudslide triggered by heavy rainfall in Zhashui county in Shangluo, Shaanxi province, Xinhua News Agency reported on Thursday.
According to local flood control headquarters, the victims were residents of a household in Xingping township. They were buried by a sudden mudslide while clearing accumulated water near their house on Wednesday.
Zhashui suffered continuous heavy rainfall from July 30 to Wednesday, with three rivers in the county recording five flood peaks that exceeded their warning levels. The maximum accumulated rainfall reached 321.4 millimeters, according to Xinhua.
Preliminary statistics showed that as of Thursday, a total of 9,901 people from 3,718 households in Zhashui have been affected by the flood.
In Xingping township, 38 sections of river embankments totaling 16.2 kilometers were damaged, 29 road collapses occurred, 15 houses belonging to nine households were damaged, 44 hectares of farmland were affected, 15 greenhouses at family farms were flooded, and three livestock farms suffered losses.
The county is making every effort to search for and rescue those buried, while properly relocating the evacuated residents.
