China's northernmost high-speed railway begins trial operations

(ECNS) -- Trial operations for the Harbin-Yichun high-speed railway began on Thursday when a train departed Harbin Station in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province at 7:40 a.m. and arrived at Yichun West Station 2 hours and 2 minutes later.

The Harbin–Yichun high-speed railway is an extension of the Beijing–Harbin and Beijing–Hong Kong-Macao corridor in China's eight vertical and eight horizontal high-speed rail network. It is also the northernmost high-speed railway currently under construction in China.

The 318-kilometer line starts in Harbin, passes through Suihua City, and ends in Yichun City. It is designed for speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour.

Once the railway opens, travel time between Harbin and Yichun will be cut from about seven hours to around two hours.
