
(ECNS) -- The 2025 FIBA 3x3 Xi'an Challenger concluded on Sunday with China's Chongming claiming the championship after a hard-fought 17-12 victory over France's Bordeaux in the final in Xi'an, capital of northwestern China's Shaanxi Province.
The final was intense from the start, with both sides deploying tight defense that made scoring difficult. At the halfway mark, Bordeaux led narrowly at 8-7. The teams were tied at 10 with just 3 minutes and 47 seconds remaining when Chongming launched a decisive 5-0 run. From there, Chongming maintained composure and intensity to seal the win at 17-12.
Chongming's opponents were a very strong team.
This match was not just a competitive battle, but also an opportunity to learn from them, said Zhang Dianliang of Chongming after the final, expressing respect for the French team.
This year's Xi'an Challenger drew 16 teams from countries including China, Serbia, France, and Mongolia.
The FIBA 3x3 competition structure includes the World Cup, Challenger series, and Masters tournaments. Among these, the Challenger events serve as critical platforms for professional players to earn ranking points and qualify for higher-tier competitions.
