Once among the regions most severely affected by soil erosion in southern China, Changting County in Fujian Province was dubbed "Flaming Mountains" due to its scorching summer surface temperatures capable of cooking an egg.
In Changting, there was a saying -- "Three-day sunshine leaves dust on your face; three-day rain transforms the field into mud."
During his tenure in Fujian, Xi Jinping made five visits to Changting to spearhead comprehensive soil erosion control efforts.
In 2000, then deputy Party chief and governor of Fujian Province, Xi donated a camphor tree to the Hetian Century Ecological Park.
Two and a half decades later, this camphor tree stands tall with deep roots and lush foliage, having witnessed Changting's remarkable transformation from "Flaming Mountains" to a beautiful landscape.
Today, the "Changting Experience" has been promoted globally as a model case of ecological restoration.
