Electric vehicle charging starts deadly Shenzhen apartment fire: police

(ECNS) -- A fire that left seven dead and four seriously injured in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province was caused by charging an electric vehicle at one residence, China Central Television cited local police as saying.

The fire broke out around 2:45 a.m. near a rented room in the Maanshan Community of Baoan District.

It instantly killed five people and also led to the deaths of another two who fell to the ground in an attempt to escape.

Four injured are receiving treatment at hospital and are in a stable condition, a source said.

Local police are still investigating the accident and have arrested one person.
