China Mobile yesterday said it has about 13 million 4G mobile users in Shanghai with a city-level penetration rate of more than 50 percent.
Besides upgrading its mobile networks, the carrier plans to expand smart home business covering high-speed broadband and super high definition TV services in Shanghai.
Since its launch three years ago in the city, China Mobile now has more than 13 million 4G users, including 1 million 4G Plus users based on VoLTE technology.
China Mobile has invested 15 billion yuan ($2.2 billion) in 4G network upgrade, public Wi-Fi and family broadband network in Shanghai following an agreement between the carrier and the city government.
China Telecom's Shanghai branch is the biggest fixed-line and broadband service provider in the city with more than 3 million family users.
The convergence between mobile and fixed-line services and market competition will boost the industry, analysts said.
