In a news that is sure to please women commuters, Shanghai Metro will build more women's toilets at new Metro stations, its operator Shanghai Shentong Group said yesterday.
Shentong said it will make sure that the ratio of men and women's toilets at the over 100 newly built stations will be 1 to 2.5 by 2020.
The current ratio is 1 to 0.7, leading to long queues in front of women's toilets, according to a report released by Shanghai Women's Federation.
Shentong also announced that every new station will have one unisex toilets so that family members can help seniors, the disabled or mothers who accompany children. The unisex toilets will be fitted with kids' facilities, meaning kid-sized toilet seats and basin.
