Shanghai police have issued an all-points bulletin for a 12-year-old boy who has been missing since Monday.

Peng Yijian, a 7th-grade pupil at Shanghai Longyuan Middle School in Xuhui, ran away from his home on Binnan Road in Xuhui District about 12:15pm on Monday.

The boy's mother, surnamed Liu, told Shanghai Daily that Peng ran after being scolded for getting into trouble at school.

"He was very upset and I feel guilty that I shouted at him," Liu said.

Liu said she received a call from Peng's school on Monday morning.

"A teacher told me he hadn't done his mathematics assignment and as a result would have to go home," she said.

"At home he got more upset, and then he fled," she said.

Liu said she ran after Peng but was unable to find him. Footage from a surveillance camera near their home showed that the boy and his mother headed in different directions.

Police said Peng was last seen about 1pm in a clothes shop at Shanghai South Railway Station. When he left home he was wearing his dark blue school uniform and had just 10 yuan in his pocket, his mother said.

Peng's family hail from Shanxi Province, but have lived in Shanghai since 2003.

Liu said her son had run away from home before, but never for such a long time.

Anyone with information about the missing child can call his parents directly on 1811-6266-306 or 1802-1008-495.
