Highlights of foreign congratulatory messages on Xi's election as Chinese president (9)

Congratulations have been pouring in from around the world since Xi Jinping was elected Chinese president by a unanimous vote on Saturday at the annual session of the National People's Congress, China's national legislature.[Special coverage]

Xi was also unanimously elected chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC).

In their congratulatory messages, leaders of foreign countries, political parties and organizations expressed confidence that under Xi's leadership, China will achieve greater prosperity and make more contributions to world peace and development.

The following is an edited version of some of the messages.

Brazilian President Michel Temer said he was delighted to learn about Xi's election as Chinese president and sent his sincere congratulations.

The Brazilian side is willing to make concerted efforts with China to further strengthen Brazil-China comprehensive strategic partnership and promote common development of the two countries.

Argentine President Mauricio Macri said under Xi's leadership, China has been moving forward with determination toward the goal of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

He expressed his sincere hope that China will usher in a glorious new era on the path toward the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.

Ecuadorian President Lenin Moreno congratulated Xi on his election as Chinese president and chairman of the CMC, noting that the friendly and cooperative relations between Ecuador and China have reached unprecedented levels. He wished China prosperity.

Gabonese President Ali Bongo said he would like to pay tribute to the series of major decisions of the 13th National People's Congress of China.

These major decisions will help push forward China's significant initiatives such as comprehensively deepening reform, speed up the progress of China's modernization and benefit the friendly Chinese people, he said.

Guinean President Alpha Conde said that Xi's election is an inevitable result of his outstanding role in the historic process of realizing Chinese national rejuvenation.

China will grow stronger and more stable and will further promote world unity, peace and prosperity, he said.

On behalf of the Sierra Leonean government and the Sierra Leonean people, Sierra Leonean President Ernest Bai Koroma extended his warmest congratulations to Xi on his election as Chinese president.

He said he firmly believes that under the leadership of Xi, the Chinese people will surely realize the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan sent his sincere congratulations to Xi on his election as Chinese president, saying that under the leadership of Xi, China has achieved great development and Turkey-China relations have also made important progress.

He expressed his belief that China will continue to score achievements in the new era, and showed his full confidence in the future of bilateral relations.

King Abdullah II of Jordan expressed his sincere congratulations to Xi and the Chinese people, saying that Jordan is willing to work with China and continue to build a more beautiful, prosperous, just and peaceful future for the two peoples and the world.

Polish President Andrzej Duda said he believes that China will achieve even greater development in the future under Xi's leadership.

Under the guidance of Poland-China comprehensive strategic partnership, the two countries will join hands and progress together, cooperate for win-win results and better benefit the two peoples, he said.

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos wished Xi continuous success in leading China, adding that he believes the two countries will carry on constructive dialogue, and create more opportunities to further deepen their relations.

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said Xi's outstanding leadership has led China to rapid development and continuous prosperity.

He added that he believes the Chinese people will realize the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation under Xi's leadership.

Myanmar's State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi said Xi has fostered with Myanmar relations featuring closeness, amity, mutual respect and trust.

She added she is very glad that Xi's election provides favorable opportunities to further promote the friendly ties that already exist between the two countries.

World Economic Forum Executive Chairman Klaus Schwab said China has impressed the world with its development achievements and the leadership role it plays in addressing severe global challenges.

He said Xi's election as Chinese president by a unanimous vote is an embodiment of Chinese people's support for the president's wise leadership, under which he believes China will have a brighter future.
