The successful experience of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in carrying out governance in the country offers an inspiring example for other nations including Serbia, said a Serbian political researcher.[Special Coverage]

Over the past five years, China has made great achievements in socioeconomic development under the CPC's leadership, noted Ivona Ladjevac, a senior researcher at the Institute of International Politics and Economics in Belgrade, in a recent interview with Xinhua.

Among the achievements are economic development, poverty reduction, adoption of new approaches in handling international affairs, and realization of a shift onto green technologies, she added.

The scholar spoke highly of the CPC's leading role, saying that the party's fight against corruption is necessary to maintain fair governance, which has aroused much public interest in Serbia.

Also, the CPC is well known for rejecting external influence and formulating long-term development plans, Ladjevac noted, adding that the CPC has developed a meritocratic system where "the best should have the best position and get an opportunity to contribute to their society."

The CPC's governance experience, she pointed out, is inspiring to Serbia and other countries across the world.

"I'm sure that the CPC is among those parties which are not closing eyes against obvious things. They are very familiar with all these aspects of tremendous problems inherited in all societies, including the Chinese, such as big differences between urban and rural areas," she said.

She added that what impresses her most is that the CPC never gives up and they always have a plan to tackle problems and help those in need.

"They set their goals and they are progressing step by step," she said.

With an eye on the international landscape, Ladjevac particularly pointed to the Belt and Road Initiative, which was put forward in 2013 by Chinese President Xi Jinping and which is aimed at promoting common development and prosperity along and beyond the intercontinental trade routes of the ancient Silk Road.

The initiative, she said, not only offers opportunities for other countries troubled with economic sluggishness and high unemployment but also helps settle political problems in the international arena.

"All countries willing to be included can join cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative and design their own projects. Their people can get connected. And there are no conditions attached, which is the best part," she said. "Those willing to participate will benefit, but those who are not will not be involved against their will."

Meanwhile, China's promotion of sustainable development, dedication to the Paris climate accord, and implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative will have a great positive influence internationally, she added.

Regarding the upcoming 19th CPC National Congress, which is set to open on Oct. 18 in Beijing, Ladjevac said she is eager to know the long-term plans of the new CPC leadership and that she is confident in China's future.

"The Chinese leadership will continue to insist on peaceful relations and respect for the world's universal values defined by the United Nations," she said.
