Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the U.S. West Coast technology and aviation hub of Seattle on Tuesday morning, starting his first state visit to the United States. He was warmly welcomed by local leaders and people. Xi's visit also drew much attention of the world. [Special coverage]

"Seattle is honored to host President Xi and his delegation during his visit to the United States," said Ed Murray, Mayor of Seattle.

The Chinese community in the city prepared a lion dance and other activities to welcome the arrival of Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan. Chinese and American flags are hung out in front of many apartments. Tech titans also gathered in Seattle to meet with President Xi.

Internet users from U.S. and other countries have expressed their welcome, respect and expectations to Xi on the official accounts of People's Daily on Weibo, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Yaochong Guo said, "The world welcome Xi's state visit to U.S., the big two get together for a better world !"

"This is a great moment for the world as two giants met," Rene Chang echoed.

After reading the four-point proposal put forward by President Xi on China-U.S. ties, Umnuay Saehau, an internet user from Malaysia made comments on Facebook: "Most sensible. Not in the least, demanding. Let's hope practical details can be worked out by the two top nations to the benefit, not only mutually but of the whole world."

"Those are great statements and points made by President Xi. The most grounded and forward thinking of the world leaders today, "a netizen named galzu left the message on People's Daily Online.

Another netizen from Mexico named Laura Isabel Gonzalez Rembao spoke highly of President Xi, "A great and humble president who rules a powerful nation."

Susan Bentley, from lowa of the United States, wrote about her wish to meet the couple of Xi on the website, "They are very down to earth and would be nice to meet them, but we know that is not going to happen."
