Cross-border projects have been long-term goal

Commenting on the Belt and Road Initiative and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, NPC spokeswoman Fu Ying said at a press conference on Wednesday that some cross-border infrastructure projects were first proposed more than twenty years ago but were not implemented until now due to insufficient technology, expertise and capital. The leadership, Fu said, has always sought to benefit neighboring countries from China's growth. Most of the neighboring countries are small or mid-sized, Fu said, and China fully understands their development needs and ambitions.

The success of big projects relies on the will and participation of all parties involved and will benefit all countries, not just countries in the region, but globally.
