Xi's observations on Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan affaris

Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the celebration gathering marking the 15th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland and the inauguration of the fourth-term chief executive and government of the Macao Special Administrative Region on Dec 20, 2014. This was Xi Jinping's first visit to Macao since he took office as head of state.

Xi has devoted considerable attention to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan affairs since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). He has repeatedly emphasized in public that the fate of Hong Kong SAR, Macao SAR and Taiwan are closely connected with the Chinese mainland.

1、The fate of Hong Kong and Macao maintains close ties with that of the Chinese mainland.

2、The peoples of Hong Kong and Macao will work side by side with people from other parts of China to realize the Chinese dream of the great renewal of the Chinese nation.

3、Macao SAR government and Macao people from all walks of life need to be mindful of potential dangers, make good use of opportunities and conditions, and solve difficult problems, to lay the foundations of the long-term development of Macao SAR.

4、 We have full confidence in the future of China and the Chinese nation and hold a firm belief that the various undertakings in Macao SAR will make further progress in the future.

5、 The key to good management of Hong Kong's affairs lies in implementing "one country, two systems" with a comprehensive and correct understanding, and maintaining the dignity of the Basic Law of the Hong Kong SAR.

6、History shows that any attempts to promote "Taiwan independence" are bound to fail.

7、We treat our Taiwan compatriots equally and without discrimination. We welcome anyone who now promotes development of cross-Strait ties, whatever stance he or she may have taken in the past.

8、 We will untie knots and solve problems if we hold to the ideal of "Taiwan and Chinese mainland being the members of one family", feel for each other and treat each other with all sincerity.

9、 Mutually-beneficial cross-Strait economic integration should not be undermined at any time.

10、Both sides of the Strait are of the Chinese nation and share the same blood; both sides of the Strait belong to one nation.
