China on Monday condemned a terrorist attack in Afghanistan and pledged support for Afghanistan's efforts to maintain security and stability.

"China opposes terrorism in any form and condemns the attack," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a daily press briefing.

Hua made the remarks as a suicide bombing in Afghan eastern Paktika province left at least 40 dead and 50 others injured.

Hua extended condolences for the victims and their families.

She said China will firmly support Afghanistan's efforts to maintain national security and stability, and is ready to work with the international community to help Afghanistan realize peace, stability and development.
