China on Wednesday welcomed the latest developments of the ties between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the Republic of Korea (ROK) after three high-ranking DPRK officials attended the closing ceremony of the Incheon Asian Games.

"We have noticed the media reports," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily press briefing.

He said China welcomes "the fact that the DPRK sent a high-level delegation to the closing ceremony of the Incheon Asian Games and the developments of the North-South relationship."

"China always supports moves from the North and the South on the Korean peninsula to improve their ties and push ahead with reconciliation and cooperation through dialogue," said the spokesman.

"We hope the two sides will go further to meet each other half way and do more things conducive to building up mutual trust and improving their relations," Hong added.

Three highest-ranking DPRK officials, including Hwang Pyong So, Choe Ryong Hae and Kim Yang Gon, attended the closing ceremony of the 17th Asian Games over the weekend.

The three officials held talks with their ROK counterparts, including top presidential security advisor Kim Kwan-jin and Unification Minister Ryoo Kihl-jae.

The dialogue was the highest-level meeting between the two Koreas since ROK President Park Geun-hye took office in February 2013.

During the meeting, the officials agreed to hold the second round of high-level talks between late October and early November.
