China commends Fiji's 'Look North' policy

China had commended Fiji's Look North Policy and the move in making China the focus of the policy.

The Vice Minister of the International Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Yu Hongjun, who is leading a friendship delegation on a three-day visit to Fiji, commended Fiji for finding its own pathway to the future according to a state release Monday.

In the highlight of his visit that saw him meeting participants of the China Executive Leadership Academy in Pudong (CELAP) in Shanghai, he reminded Fiji's top officials of the path and commitment they had made to develop their country.

"We respect the right of the people of Fiji to choose their development consistent with their own national characteristic and believe the people have the capability to move it forward in building their own future," Yu said.

He said no matter what happens to international landscape in the future, China remains committed to being a good neighbor.

The vice minister paid a courtesy call to Attorney General, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola.

Yu said China was happy to see the progress Fiji was making in its preparations to hold elections in September this year and it was keen to assist in whatever way it can.
