China said on Friday that Foreign Minister Wang Yi's visit to Palestine and Israel achieved expected goals.

"His visit further deepened China's traditional friendship with Palestine and Israel respectively, and promoted bilateral cooperation in substantial areas," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a regular press briefing while commenting on Wang's Middle East tour including the two countries and Algeria, Morocco and Saudi Arabia.

"The visit, featuring friendship, cooperation and peace, achieved its expected goals," Hua added.

According to her, Wang visited Palestine and Israel separately from Dec. 18 to 20, which are the first two legs of his Middle East tour.

Wang met with state leaders and foreign ministers during his stay in Palestine and Israel, and communicated with people from all walks of life, discussing China's relationship with them, the Palestine-Israel peace talks, and some other global and regional issues of common concern.

Wang also illustrated China's four-point proposal to resolve the Palestinian issue put forward by President Xi Jinping in May, according to Hua.

"China always actively supports and promotes the Middle East peace process and has made constructive efforts to this end during this year," said Hua.

She added that China hoped Palestine and Israel would grasp opportunities, overcome obstacles and make joint efforts to make concrete progress in the peace talks as early as possible.

She said China will continue to negotiate with all parties in its own way and play a positive role for a comprehensive and fair resolution of the Palestinian issue.
