China is willing to work together with the United Statesto take concrete steps to push forward the development of bilateral ties in the right direction and ensure its steady improvement, Chinese Ambassador to the US Cui Tiankai said Thursday.

Speaking at a reception to celebrate the 64th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, Cui hailed the smooth transition of the China-U.S. relations during the government changes in both countries early this year.

He saluted the important consensus, reached by Chinese President Xi Jinpingand his US counterpart Barack Obamaat their June summit in California on building a new model of major-country relationship featuring no conflict or confrontation, mutual respect and win-win cooperation, for having charted a clear path for future development of the China-U.S. ties.

The Chinese envoy applauded the joint efforts and notable achievements that have been made by the two sides to implement the consensus in the past months.

The two countries successfully held their fifth round of Strategic and Economic Dialogue in Washington in July, which yielded many tangible results, and have maintained close contacts and consultation on regional and global issues, including the Korean Peninsular, Irannuclear issue, Syria and climate change.

The bilateral military-to-military relations have remarkably improved this year, as demonstrated by the US visits conducted separately by Chinese Defense Minister Chang Wanquan and Naval Commander Wu Shengli. A fleet of three Chinese military ships visited Hawaii early this month to conduct a joint search-and-rescue exercise with the US Navy.

In November, a top Chinese delegation is to visit the US for the 4th China-US Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, Cui disclosed.

He said that China will seek to maintain healthy and sustained economic growth, continue to make important contributions to global development, and shoulder proportional responsibility that is compatible with its development.

U.S. Under Secretary of State Patrick Kennedy also lauded the achievements made so far this year in advancing the US-China relations, especially since the Xi-Obama summit in June.

He pledged that the US is willing to continue to push forward the positive, cooperative and comprehensive US-China relations, for the benefits of not only the two nations, but also the whole world.
