China's journalist association, 25 state media outlets and Beijing local media on Tuesday jointly pledged to contribute to the realization of the "Chinese dream" by upholding the truth and credibility of the press.

Participating media outlets include the People's Daily, Xinhua News Agency, Qiushi magazine, the People's Liberation Army Daily, China Central Television, as well as Beijing local media outlets such as Beijing Youth Daily and Beijing Times.

Their joint pledge states that reporters must regard authenticity as the life of the news, seek truth from facts and honor the credibility of the press throughout their journalistic careers.

Reporters are also advised to stay away from sensationalism, boosting circulation and audience ratings at the cost of the truth, fabrication and groundless reporting.

Furthermore, these media outlets pledge to reject paid news, care for and respect people in their reporting and attach great importance to the social effects of their reports, rather than blindly pursue economic interests.

In so doing, the pledge says, the media sector could make its due contributions to the realization of the "Chinese dream."

Speeches by President Xi Jinping have highlighted the "Chinese dream," a much-discussed concept widely understood to mean a rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Senior CPC leader Liu Yunshan on April 8 called for wide contributions to realizing the "Chinese dream."
