Jichuan, a village 100 kilometers from Putian city in East China's Fujian Province, has a history of over 2,000 years. The only primary school used to have more than 500 students and over 20 teachers, but it has faced an enrollment decline in recent years as more and more local residents leave the village to seek job opportunities outside, bringing their children along. Now there are only two students and two teachers left in the school. Lin Guozhen, a 55-year-old teacher, said he has no idea about the future of the school or his job, but he hopes that the village school will remain open.
