Shells from a species of freshwater snail pile up at a site in Xingyi Village, Tonghai County, Southwest China’s Yunnan Province, Oct. 24, 2016. The species, endemic to lakes on a Yunnan plateau, is critically endangered. The site has a history dating back 4,000 years and is thought be the site for remains of dumped snails.
