The backfilling of an illegal basement, found in Shaluo Hutong, in Dongcheng District of Beijing, is underway on November 25, 2015. The backfilling was monitored by local authorities for city administration and construction. The basement covering 700 square meters and with a 10-meter depth was found in an alley way with a width no more than 3 meters. The owner of the basement, surnamed Li, bought a yard in this narrow place and spent five years building his basement. Local administration and law enforcement said Mr. Li had been ordered to get the basement backfilled, an endeavor that could cost him up to a million yuan. Li will also pay a fine for the illegal project. (Photo/IC)
