China's southernmost school is now in use on Yongxing Island of Sansha city, Hainan province, local government announced on Monday.

The Yongxing School, covering an area of 4,650 square meters, has been put into operation recently after 18 months of construction, the Sansha city government said in a news report on December 14, 2015.

The school, equipped with teaching facilities, archives, and an underwater archaeology center, will offer kindergarten, primary school and vocational education to local fishermen and their children, as well as troops and working staff stationed on the island, according to the government.

6 students have enrolled in the school so far and 6 teaching staff are in place, said the report.
