The first Ji'nan battleship, captured by the PLA in the campaign of crossing the Yangtze River from April 20 to 21, 1949, in the civil war between the militaries of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the then ruling party Kuomintang (KMT), was a coast defense warship seized by the KMT's navy from the surrendered Japanese invading troops in Shanghai after China's victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression from 1937 to 1945. The warship was named Ji'nan in March 1950 and was sunk as a target ship in October 1975.
