(ECNS) –What’s the real impact of U.S. tariff hikes on Chinese merchants? China News Network reporters recently visited Yiwu International Trade City — the world’s largest wholesale market for small commodities — to find out.

Nie Ziqin, a seasoned vendor in District 1, remains unfazed. “We’re in the business of serving the world. A single country’s tariff decision won’t shake the Chinese market,” she said.

When tariffs on exports to the U.S. surged earlier this year, Nie didn’t wait. She pivoted quickly, rerouting goods to the European market and securing over 5 million yuan (about $695,500) in orders within a month. “When one door closes, another opens,” she said with confidence.

Now, with a 90-day tariff pause in effect, Nie is more certain than ever: “You can’t put all your eggs in one basket.”
