Retirees from all over China enjoyed the warm winter in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, as they embraced the "migratory bird" lifestyle. They begin their southern sojourn each November and return north as spring arrives the following year.

This practice, where seniors travel south for the winter and return north in the spring, similar to migratory birds, has become popular among retired Chinese seniors and is known as "migratory bird-style" elderly care.

A CNS reporter learned that these retired Chinese seniors often choose different living modes such as buying a house and renting a house. Some communities in Hainan where these retirees buy and rent houses were equipped with activity rooms to meet their entertainment needs.

Many local hospitals have been able to use medical insurance in different places, which is more convenient for the "elderly migratory birds" to get medical treatment in Sanya. Some travel agencies have launched special tourism products to provide more options for retired seniors.
