Two more manufacturers for COVID-19 antigen detection reagent apply for registration

(ECNS) -- Two manufacturers for COVID-19 antigen detection reagent from Hefei applied for registration qualification to enter the market on Wednesday.

Nucleic acid testing (NAT) remains efficient in COVID-19 detection, while antigen detection reagent could be supplementary to confirm the COVID-19 cases and make "early detection" a possibility.

Nasal or throat swab samples are necessary for early detection in immunochromatography, which can detect COVID-19 by putting the sample containing an analyte onto a test strip.

Antigen detection reagents will allow the public to test at home easily, with test results available as quickly as 15 minutes.

Confirmed cases are highly communicable. Going for testing, the virus could be spread farther.

The antigen detection reagent can be preserved for around 18 months in normal temperatures, and would have no restrictions on shipping.

Daily production capacity of the manufacturer can now serve 15 million people.

Raw and auxiliary materials in the warehouse would allow one billion antigen detection reagents to be produced.

So far, China's National Medical Products Administration has approved 12 antigen detection reagent products for the market.
