A wild elephant wandered into Meng'a Township of Menghai County, Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan, on Jan. 28. It marched along main streets and stepped back from passing vehicles.
Yunnan is China's only habitat for wild Asian elephants. Thanks to protection efforts, the wild elephant population has increased there from 170 in the 1970s to about 300 today.
