The word Dammam means cavalries in Tibetan. It is said when central government of Qing Dynasty dispatched army to fight against Gurkha invaders from Nepal, hundreds of Gurkha cavalries were missing after the war and they stayed in the border area. As time moves on, they lived with local people on the China-Nepal border. It is said that Damman people are those cavalries' descendants.
